Expired passport: Woman jailed
Kota Kinabalu: A woman was jailed five months for staying in the State after her passport expired.

Gego Wuran pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz to the charge against her on Monday.

Gego was arrested on March 16 this year at Beaufort after police found that her passport expired.

The offence, under Section 15(1)(c ) of the Immigration Act, carries a jail term of up to five years or fine of RM10,000, or both, on conviction.

The court ordered Gego to serve the jail sentence from the date of her arrest.

After completing the jail sentence, Gego was ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department for her biometrics data to be recorded before deportation.

In another case, a man was sent to prison four months for entering the State illegally.

The court meted out the sentence to Adi Mas Omar who admitted to entering the State without any valid document.

He was arrested after failing to produce any identification document to the police.

Adi was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.

Meanwhile, another three men were charged with illegal entry.

They were Salim Mohd, Madian Geroy Abdullah and Nazri Narvin. However, no plea was taken from the trio after the charge was read to them via Zoom.

The court set April 20 for mention and the trio was ordered remanded further pending the date.
