Bakakuks: Case for mention April 13
Kota Kinabalu: The court set April 13 for mention of the case involving a 38-year-old man charged with two counts of having two bakakuks (home-made gun) and live bullets.

Sessions Court Judge Ummu Khaltom Abd Samad set the date for Kennylly Kohaman, pending the outcome of the representation letter.

On the first count, Kennylly is accused of having two Bakakuks at 9.30pm on Sept 10, 2021 at a house in Kg Kigiok, Ranau.

The offence under Section 8 of the Firearms Act carries a jail term of up to 14 years, and at least six strokes of the cane, on conviction.

Kennylly claimed trial to the two charges on Sept 24, 2021 and was ordered remanded further pending the date.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Fauzi Acho appeared for the prosecution while counsel Hairun Vyron Othman defended Kennylly.

Meanwhile, a man was sentenced to five years’ jail and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for taking drugs repeatedly.

Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim meted out the sentence to Hezairiee Kasim after he pleaded guilty to the charge against him on Wednesday.

He was found taking the drugs on March 6 this year after his urine was tested positive at the police station here.

Hezairiee has several conviction records for taking drugs.

The court ordered Hezairiee to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.

After completing his jail sentence, the court ordered Hezairiee to be placed under police supervision for two years.
