MEMBAKUT: More than RM10 million in zakat will be distributed to 44,474 Asnaf (underprivileged people) in Sabah in conjunction with the coming Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebration.
“The hardcore poor, including converts, will receive this contribution and some will receive directly from their bank accounts,” said Special Tasks Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif. The distribution would be by the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis).
He was speaking during the Ramadan Forum of the Muslim Converts Sri Wawasan hall, Saturday.
Arifin who is also Membakut Assemblyman presented a contribution of RM200 to 757 hardcore poor and Muslim converts here.
He said the distribution of tithe to the recipients is to help them celebrate Hari Raya Aidil Fitri next month.
Commenting on the Al-Quran and Fardhu Ain (Kafa) class attended by 300 Muslim converts here, Arifin said MUIS, Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) and Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) would initiate the class for all Muslim converts in the State.
Also present were Muis Deputy head Ustaz Malai Ali Malai Ahmad, Jheains director Datuk Saifulzaman Sangol, Jakim director Sabah Branch Datuk Norjeli Dais, Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of MUIS Ramlan Awang Ali, Membakut Assistant District Officer Ibrahim Terki and Chairman of Sabah Baitulmal Corporation (PBNS) Omar Raisul Assalam Syah Sulaiman Omar.
