Motorcyclist killed in Tawau crash

TAWAU: A 65-year-old foreigner was killed when the Honda C70 motorcycle he was riding collided with a Nissan Navara on Jalan Kuhara, here, Tuesday.

Panyuki Mappilawa was dragged for about three metres with his motorcycle in the 11.50am incident.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the incident occurred when the Navara driver, a 34-year-old woman, was driving down Jalan Chong Thien Vun.

“As the victim approached the exit to Jalan Melati, the victim suddenly emerged from the right side.

“The driver tried to brake but because the distance was too close, she hit the motorcycle and dragged it for about three metres,” he said.

According to Jasmin, the rider died at the scene, while the driver was unharmed.

“Initial investigation revealed that the motorcyclist did not have a licence,” he said, adding the Tawau IPD’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division is investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
