'Watergate' trial: 'Prosecution witness's condo renovation expenditure could be exaggerated'
Kota Kinabalu: The Special Corruption Court in a case involving former Water Department officials heard on Wednesday that the renovation cost of about RM300,000 on a condominium unit purchased by a prosecution witness could be an exaggerated amount.

Prosecution’s witness Christine Fiona M Ponsoi during cross-examination by Sabah Water Department former director Ag Mohd Tahir Ag Mohd Talib’s counsel Marcel Jude said that she could not remember how much she spent for the renovation which involved the changing of flooring, installation of cabinets, a kitchen and wall decorations.

Counsel: Can you tell the court what are your duties in your current job?

Witness: I'm a business development officer, I usually analyse business proposals.

Counsel: That means you look into costing and budget?

Witness: Yes.

Counsel: But for some strange reason, as you stated in your witness statement that you had appointed an interior decorator but you are unable to give the court specific details of renovation items, that means your statement in a statement that the renovation costs of RM300,000 is an exaggeration. Do you agree?

Witness: I do not remember actually but it could be an exaggeration.
