SANDAKAN: Marine police foiled attempts by five speedboats from the Philippines to enter the country via the waters off here, Wednesday.

Sandakan Marine Police Force (PPM) Commanding Officer DSP Rusdin Banin said PPM was actively carrying out operations to prevent illegal entry of foreigners. “PPM detected several boats moving suspiciously into the country’s waters before they were intercepted.

“Inspections on the boats showed they originated from the Philippines and were ordered to turn back and escorted out of the country’s waters.
“This is to curb the spread of Covid-19, in line with the requirements of the Prevention and Control of the Infectious Diseases Act 1988,” he said.
