SIPITANG: A total of 24 suspects were nabbed for various drug offences in the district in operations dubbed “:Op Tapis” and “Op Sarang,” from March to early April. District Police Chief Champin Piuh said one was arrested under Section 39A, five for drug possession under Section 12(2), 12 under Section 15(1) and four under Section 39C, all of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952.
“Operations against drug trafficking and addiction in Sipitang will continue even if they involve small quantities,” he said.
Champin said the drug traffickers were aware that if they were caught with a large quantity of drugs, they would be charged under Section 39B ADB 1952 without bail.
“I would like to advise anyone who is still taking syabu to stop immediately to avoid facing stern action.
“Distributors become wealthy but those who become addicted suffer,” he said.
Champin urged the public and Sipitang residents to continue channeling drug-related information so that the problem could be resolved.
He said the syabu addiction problem is impeding progress in Sipitang because syabu addicts steal electrical cables and copper telecommunication towers, among other things.
