33 motorists booked in Penampang

PENAMPANG: Traffic police  here issued 33 summonses for various  offences, one of them were for not having driving licence, Friday.

District Police Chief DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim said four people were arrested and brought to the Penampang District Police Headquarters (IPD) for driving under the influence of alcohol. He said they were apprehended at the Penampang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) during Op Mabuk at the roadblock in front of SMK Bahang.

“The operation was carried out to prevent and eradicate road users who drive or ride under the influence of alcohol.

“For drunk driving offence, the accused can be charged under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment) 2020 which carries a minimum fine of RM10,000 and not more than RM30,000, and imprisonment not exceeding two years, upon conviction,” Haris said.
