Not time for Muda to talk about seats in Sabah, says Syed Saddiq

Kota Kinabalu: It is not yet time for Muda to talk about the seats it wants to contest in Sabah in the 15th general election (GE15), said party president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Speaking at a town hall meeting here last night, the former youth and sports minister stressed that the party’s focus in Sabah is to find out about the problems that affect the state through dialogues with the community.

“We want to understand Sabahans’ problems first before we offer anything. I think many people are tired of hearing about seat discussions. It is better for such discussions to be held in private between the various pacts or partners.

“The most important thing people want to hear right now is a solution to their problems,” the Muar MP said, adding that he had a good relationship with Warisan president Shafie Apdal.

Syed Saddiq said the most pressing issues in Sabah include poverty, the cost of living, and bridging the digital divide.

Earlier, Sabah Muda chairman Amos Thien said he expects the state chapter to be officially launched this year.

He said the party is actively working towards that direction, and hoped that the Sabah branch could get off the ground before GE15.

“We will go on a tour of all 25 parliamentary constituencies in Sabah to introduce Muda to the rakyat, and only then will we officially launch the party here,” he said.

Thien said the parliamentary constituencies which Muda has active grassroots participation include Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Putatan and Ranau.
