667 litterbugs in Kota Kinabalu compounded in 3 months
Kota Kinabalu: The Enforcement Department of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (KKCH) has issued City Hall (DBKK) enforcement officers issued compounds on the spot to 667 litterbugs from January to March 31, this year under an operation codenamed “Op Degil”.

Mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip said 691 offenders were brought to the Summon on the Spot (SOS) court since the operation started from 2016 to 2022.

She said the “Op Degil” would be carried out continuously to ensure the community is always sensitive and concerned in maintaining the cleanliness of this beloved city environment.

She said the operation was carried out daily to let the community be aware of the importance of keeping the city clean and also to educate those who polluted the city.

Under the DBKK (Anti-Litter) By-laws 1984 amendment 2005, she said offenders had the option to pay a compound on the spot less than RM30 and not exceeding RM500 depending on the type and amount of rubbish being dumped or presented to the SOS court.

If convicted, the offender can be fined not more than RM10,000 or imprisoned not more than three years or sentenced to a compulsory attendance order to do community work for four hours a day not exceeding a period of three months.
