Labuan lists 18 items under price control
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Labuan announced 18 items that will be placed under price control, effective April 26 until May 6, for the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
LABUAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Labuan announced 18 items under this year’s Aidilfitri Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP), which is effective on April 26 until May 6.

Its Director Junaidah Arbain said the 18 items would include imported beef (India), fish, vegetable and fruit.

“The SHMMP is implemented as a measure to curb increase of prices of essential goods during Ramadan and during Hari Raya festive season,” she said, Friday.

For Labuan, the 18 items are imported beef from India (RM20 per kg for wholesale price and RM22 per kg for retail price); chub mackerels, including Indian mackerel (RM10/RM11 per kg); fly fish [ikan Selayang] (RM7 per kg for eight to 12 units/RM9 at retail); tomatoes (RM5.50/RM6.5 per kg); red chilli (RM16/RM17 per kg); imported round cabbage from Indonesia and China, except from Beijing (RM2.50 /RM3.50 per kg): long beans (RM5/RM6 per kg); long brinjal (RM7/RM9 per kg) and cucumber (RM3/RM4 per kg).

Nine other items are imported red big onion (RM5/RM6 per kg); Holland onion (RM5/RM6 per kg); China garlic (RM7/RM8.50 per kg); dried chilli (RM18/RM20 per kg); peanuts (RM8/RM9 per kg); imported old ginger (RM11.50/RM13 per kg); coconut [wholesale only] at RM1.60 per unit and grated coconut [retail only] to be sold at RM6.50 per kg.

Consumers can refer to KPDNHEP for details of the listed items and their ceiling prices.

The SHMMP is implemented under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 and offenders are liable to a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment not exceeding three years or both; or to a maximum compound of RM50,000 for individuals and a fine not exceeding RM500,000; or to a maximum compound of RM250,000 for companies.

She said for failing to display the pink price labels for price-controlled items, traders are liable to a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or a maximum compound of RM5,000; and to a fine not exceeding RM20,000 or to a maximum compound of RM10,000 for companies.

“The price control scheme will be enforced for 11 days, which is seven days before the Hari Raya celebration, on the day itself and three days after,” she said.

Junaidah said the Ministry’s enforcement officers would be conducting price monitoring on sites such as wet markets, supermarkets and hypermarket in this duty-free-island.

She said the fixed maximum price under the scheme is based on consultations with stakeholders, including industry players and government agencies.
