Man killed in Papar collision

PAPAR: A 30-year-old man died on the spot in a collision involving a lorry and a four-wheel-drive (4WD) at Km 10, Jalan Papar Lama-Kota Kinabalu, here, Monday morning.Acting District Police Chief ASP Rosli Rasi said the incident occurred at 7.30am when the victim, who was heading to Kota Kinabalu from Papar, collided with a 10-tonne lorry.ADVERTISEMENT
He said based on initial investigations, the victim may have dozed off while driving, causing him to lose control of his vehicle, entered the opposing lane and collided with the soil-laden lorry.
“The collision resulted in the front of the 4WD to be badly damaged, causing the victim to be pinned in the vehicle.
“The victim who suffered serious injuries was taken out of the vehicle but was pronounced dead by medical officers from Papar Hospital,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.ADVERTISEMENT
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said 11 personnel led by Senior Officer Dahlan Zainuddin rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 7.16am.
“Upon arrival, the team carried out an operation to extricate the victim from the vehicle and the body was handed over to the police for further action,” he said.

The operation ended at 8.28am.
