Man in hot soup for threatening, assaulting cop

KOTA BELUD: An unemployed man threatened and assaulted a traffic policeman in Pekan Kota Belud last Saturday after being summoned.

Kota Belud District Police Chief, Supt Shahruddin Mat Husain said the incident happened at 10.55am when traffic policemen from the Kota Belud District Police Headquarters was conducting Ops Selamat and Ops Lancar.

Apart from having no insurance and road tax, the 22-year-old man was found to be driving with an expired licence, he added.

“When the summons was being issued, the individual reacted by recording it with his mobile, and the policemen reprimanded him for his action.

“The man became enraged and threatened the officers, saying that he intended to kill the officers on duty,” he said.

According to Shahruddin, the police tried to calm the man down, but he opened his car boot and pulled out an iron pipe.

“When the man was apprehended, he assaulted the officer by kicking him in the thigh, culminating in a scuffle.

“The matter is being investigated for criminal intimidation and causing injury under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 323 of the Penal Code,” he said.

In this regard, he reminded drivers to keep their driver’s licence, road tax, and insurance up to date.
