Foreign tourists beginning to be felt in Sabah
Kota Kinabalu: State Tourism, Culture, and Environment Assistant Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said it can be noticed that foreign tourists are beginning to be felt in Sabah.

“Several   foreign travellers have been seen in the city and other parts of Sabah recently,” he said.

“It is too early to comment on the impact brought about by the lessened relaxations of SOPs which started May 1. But it is obvious that foreign tourists are patronising our outlets in town and other places,” the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) chairman said.

Daily Express on Thursday reported the arrivals of some European travellers in tourist resorts in Sandakan and Sukau areas. Apart from the gradual arrivals of foreign visitors, the domestic holiday makers  continue to increase since December.

Cosmobeauté Malaysia and beautyexpo will expand into East Malaysia with the launch of the Cosmobeauté Malaysia Borneo Festival 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) from May 25 to 26.
Joniston who is also Kiulu Assemblyman believe that arrivals of tourists from China will be slow because of the reported surge  of Covid-19 cases in that country. With the continue arrivals of domestic visitors, Joniston said he was happy that business operators, particularly those involved in the tourism field, are now starting gradually to enjoy breathing space.

The reopening of international borders  and relaxation of SOPs recently will greatly help in the government’s ongoing economic recovery programmes.
