Filipino charged with drug trafficking
Kota Kinabalu: A Filipino mechanic was tentatively charged in the Magistrate’s Court, here, Friday with drug trafficking.

Abdul Rizal Ondoi, 29, was accused of trafficking 59.94gm of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine at 11pm on April 22 this year at the roadside of the old road of Tuaran Bypass, Mile 7, Inanam.

However, no plea was taken from Rizal, who appeared before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, after the charge was read out to him.

The charge, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.

The prosecution applied for a new mention date while waiting for the chemist’s report and objected bail for Rizal as the charge has no provision for bail.

Stephanie fixed July 11 for mention and ordered Rizal to be further remanded.

In another case, a 22-year-old man was fined RM100 or one day’s jail for fraudulently having RM450 in his bank account, last year.

Liaw Teck Vun admitted to having the money. He failed to give a satisfactory explanation on how he obtained them on Dec 27, 2021, here.

Liaw had committed an offence under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a fine of up to RM100 or up to three months’ jail, or both, on conviction.
