Man found drowned in Beluran

BELURAN: A 29-year-old man who went missing while swimming in a river in Kg Botition, near here, on Thursday afternoon was found drowned.

The body of Mohammad Nizam was found by villagers around 11.25pm on Friday.

Mohammad Nizam and his cousin, Azalie, 37, were believed to be swimming in the river to drive cows ashore and into the cowshed.

The cousin managed to swim to safety before being taken to Klinik Kesihatan Nangoh by members of the public for treatment.

Mohammad Nizam was reported missing and a Beluran Fire and Rescue team went to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 6.19pm on Thursday.

Beluran Fire and Rescue Station Chief PPgB Rastam Keladi said the search and rescue (SAR) operation began at 8.30am on Friday covering three kilometres down the river from the victim’s last location.

The victim’s body was then turned over to police and transported to Beluran Hospital for further investigations.
