Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Masters Athletic Association (Samas) has set a 53 gold medals target at the 34th Malaysia Athletic Open Championship schedule to be held at Stadium Universiti Malaya from May 21-22.

Chef De Mission Aliudin Jumaat said they will be represented by 31 male and 20 female athletes with Maryem Joinol as team manager.

“We only set a modest target this year because many of our past winners couldn’t make it and hopefully the newcomers will be able to deliver the additional 27 silvers and 35 bronzes as well,” he said.

Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin, who presented the State flag to Aliudin at his office on Tuesday, hoped the athletes will give their best and make the State proud.
