BELURAN: The Kaamatan festival should be promoted not only at the district, state and national levels but also internationally, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

He said this will help especially foreign tourists be aware of the nation's, especially Sabah's traditional festivals.

"This will ensure more people know the history and tradition of Kaamatan celebrated every year," said Hamzah while launching a Kaamatan celebration in Beluran today.

"It's also important to preserve such culture so that it will not go extinct."

Hamzah also said the question of why a minister outside Sabah such as himself should launch a Kaamatan event did not rise as doing so allowed him to know more about the tradition and its celebration and also to promote the festival at a higher level.
