Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s co-bid for a digital banking licence from Bank Negara Malaysia through a consortium with Pahang, and the public listed firm PUC Berhad was unsuccessful.

Sabah used to own its Sabah Bank Berhad before the state-based commercial bank was forced to merge into the Alliance Banking Group under Tun Dr Mahathir’s first prime ministership to consolidate Malaysia’s banks to a few giant financial groups as engineered by the then finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin.
