Land grants to two Tanjung Batu villages

TAWAU: The State Government has approved land grants to two villages in the Tanjung Batu constituency, namely Kampung Budaya Pasir Putih and Kampung Tanjung Batu Laut, here.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor handed over the village gazette to Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) President Joseph Pang, in conjunction with the Sabah Softwoods Berhad (SSB) Hari Raya Open House, in Pasir Putih, Wednesday.

Kg Budaya Pasir Putih with an area of 37.73 hectares was approved on April 30, 2021, while Kg Tanjung Batu Laut with an area of 2,101 hectares was approved on Aug 20, 2021.

Kg Budaya Pasir Putih, which was previously known as Kg Baru Pasir Putih, has almost 6,000 residents and established for almost 30 years, while Kg Tanjung Batu Laut has around 5,000 residents, established 84 years ago.

The land grants to the two villages provided relief to more than 10,000 residents.

“With this grant, the people of these two villages will not feel worried anymore because their settlements are now on village reserve land,” Hajiji told reporters after the symbolic handover ceremony.

Hajiji and his entourage were present to enliven the SSB Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at the SSB Sports and Recreation Club, Jalan Sin San Pasir Putih.

Also present were his wife Datin Seri Juliah Salag, Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim, State Secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Sr Safar Untong and State Land and Survey Director Datuk Sr. Bernard Liew.

Apart from attending several other Aidilfitri open houses including the Titingan Family open house and Bersatu Kalabakan Division, Hajiji also visited the Tawau Association Building for the Deaf and met disabled children who study there and the association’s staff.

In conjunction with the ceremony, the Chief Minister also presented RM1 million as contribution from the State Government for the construction of the association’s new building and another RM50,000 for the centre’s operating costs.

The donation was presented to the Chairman of the association, Dr Lo Vun Kong.

On Wednesday night, Hajiji will accompany Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin to attend the closing and prize giving ceremony of the State-level Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation Ceremony 1443H/2022H at the Tawau Community Hall.
