BELURAN: Duchess Kent of Hospital staff, Ray Asmadin, 38, emerged as the 2022 Sugandoi Kaamatan Beluran champion.
He defeated 10 contestants and also won Best Vocal and Best Performance.
Ray performed ‘Haro Koupusan Nu’ sung by Fanzi Ruji and a second song ‘Lamazo Tokou Kaamatan’ by Esther Applunius, which was also in line with the Sugandoi condition this year where participants have to select two types of songs, a ballad or slow song and another fast song.
“My feelings until now are still mixed, happy, nervous and still surprised with myself.
“After almost three years, I took a break from participating in this event, and I
didn’t expect that I can still compete with others out there.
“I am also nervous because I will be representing Beluran to the State-level Sugandoi competition which will be held at Hongkod Koisaan KDCA on May 24,” he said.
Ray hoped that he would deliver a performance that could impress the jurors as well as spectators during the State-level competition.
Meanwhile, the second and third place went to Dellouvah Hewailee and Mohd Dinie, respectively,
Beluran District Officer Roger Appolonius, who is also the Chairman of the Beluran District Kaamatan Festival 2022 Celebration Committee, presented the prizes to all the winners.
