KOTA KINABALU: State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong (pic) has instructed the State Finance Ministry to review and improve all systems and procedures that may open up space and opportunities for sales tax declaration forgery.
In a statement, Friday, Safar said he took serious note of the recent arrests of a State civil servant and will give full cooperation to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
It was reported that a senior government officer and a former civil servant have been arrested, Tuesday, for allegedly receiving bribes of about RM700,000 from a palm oil factory that linked them to a forgery of crude palm oil sales tax declaration.
On Friday, it was also reported that MACC has arrested a “Datuk” to assist in investigations into a case involving bribes to cover up the forgery of palm oil sales tax declarations submitted monthly to the State Finance Ministry.
