Kota Kinabalu: Shelen Aderina Kok captured Sabah’s first ever medal in bodybuilding at the SEA Games after winning a bronze in Hanoi, Vietnam a week ago.
She and Malvern Abdullah finished third in the open weight pairs mixed category and she also missed the podium after finishing fourth in the open weight women category.
Fellow Sabahan and gold medallist at the 12th World WBPF Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships last year, Meilaura Doro Jimmy had to settle for fifth place in both the open weight women as well as the open weight pairs mixed categories with Buda Anak Anchah.
Sabah Bodybuilding Association President Joannes Staneslous said they are very proud of the two athletes in their debut appearance at the biennial Games.
“They have done an excellent job against their Vietnam opponents who were well prepared with the home ground advantage.
“Their inclusion in the national squad for the SEA Games was a historic feat for the State in women’s bodybuilding and I hope they will encourage more women here to take up bodybuilding,” he said on Friday.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Youth and Sports Ministry and Sabah Sports Council for their support.
