Kota Kinabalu: The Ministry of Education will work closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to ensure the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) situation will not worsen among pupils or students.
Deputy Education Minister II Datuk Mohamad Alamin said there have been HFMD cases reported not only among toddlers but also children up to 10 years old in Sabah.

He said his Ministry has been in constant communication with MOH to find ways to prevent the HFMD situation from worsening or getting out of hand.
“As of today (this year), there have been some 2,834 HFMD cases reported among children up to 10 years old in Sabah.
“I urge teachers and school administrations to give serious attention to the matter, especially in terms of maintaining hygiene and taking necessary prevention measures as encouraged by the MOH,” he told reporters at the 2021 Sabah Education Department Excellent Service Award presentation ceremony, here, Tuesday.
Alamin assured that his Ministry, along with respective district education officers, will keep a close eye on issues involving pupils or students’ safety, health and wellbeing.
Earlier, Alamin congratulated all recipients of the Excellent Service Award and hoped that their achievement will serve as an encouragement for them to make the best out of the education in Sabah.
