Armed Forces dethrone Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu: The Armed Forces (ATM) team dethroned Kota Kinabalu to win the Mayor’s Cup Boxing Championship organised by Sabah Boxing Association (SBA), which ended at the Damai Multi-purpose Hall on Tuesday.

They won a total of three gold medals contributed by Mohd Sukandar (51kg), Mohd Hanif (67kg) and Mohd Shahrul (71kg) in addition to one silver and five bronze medals while Kota Kinabalu with two golds, four silvers and one bronze had to settle for the runners-up spot and in third place were Sandakan with two gold and four bronze medals.

Tambunan’s Deanver Randel was named the best boxer and Cooperal Fauzan Ahlal from ATM as the best coach while the best loser award went to Sherzali Herza Asli also from Tambunan.

Meanwhile, a women’s bout was also held in the 45kg category which was won by Tambunan’s Bridgette Olga who defeated Trisha Farisha of Papar in the final.
