RM6,000 in bank: Woman fined RM100
Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old woman was fined RM100 or one day jail for fraudulently having RM6,000 in her bank account, two years ago.

Hafizah pleaded guilty to having the money in her bank account, which she failed to give a satisfactory explanation on how she obtained them on Oct 14, 2020 and Oct 15, the same year.

Hafizah committed an offence under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance, which provides a fine of up to RM100 or up to three months jail or both on conviction.

Meanwhile, an unemployed man was sentenced to one year jail and fined RM1,000 or three months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for theft.

Ong Kui Min, 46, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to stealing an Oppo handphone and a bag containing a certain amount of cash belonging to one AlSarif Dismaris at 7.30am on May 36 at the quarters of Penampang Ngau Chap 1, Penampang.

The charge, under Section 380 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability to a fine on conviction.

The court heard from the prosecution that Ong’s act was captured on CCTV entering the premises and exit holding the said items belonging to the complainant and that the loss was estimated at RM600.

Police investigations revealed that Ong used to work at the said restaurant.

Ong, who was unrepresented, requested for a lenient sentence.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik applied for a heavier sentence on the grounds that Ong has one previous conviction record for a similar offence.

In another case, a 37-year-old man was jailed 12 months for keeping stolen properties.

Khairol Johan admitted before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having a stolen Casio G-Shock watch belonging to one Baqir Sardi and a stolen cap belonging to one Azizul Musa at 1.25am on May 27, at Jalan Sentosa 1, Kg Air.

Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit, prosecuting, informed the court that the items were reported stolen on May 24.

Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, representing Khairol, requested leniency saying that it was his first offence and was a self-employed and a divorcee with one child.

Khairol was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine, or both, on conviction.
