Kota Kinabalu: Ten people were penalised by the Magistrate’s Court here for committing drug-related offences.
Eight of them Azumar Jafar, Arbin Jayri, Rohana Rasul, Azmin Perelim, Faizal Sani, Jastin Mangangan, Faizul Bakar and Shah Rizan pleaded guilty to taking syabu and amphetamine at separate locations here and in Penampang between March and April this year.
The prosecution tendered the chemist’s reports which stated that the eight accused’s respective urine samples tested positive for the drugs. Azumar was ordered to pay a fine of RM3,000 or 12 months’ jail, Arbin, Rohana, Faizal, Faizul and Shah were each fined RM2,000 or jail sentence between four and seven months.
Azmin was jailed one month from April 11 and fined RM2,000 or six months jail, while Jastin was handed seven months jail.
Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years’ jail on conviction.
Meanwhile, Faizal, Jastin, Peter Maj and Azlin Johny admitted to having syabu.
Faizal was fined RM3,100 or six months jail, Jastin was fined RM3,700 or 12 months jail.
Peter was fined RM2,800 or 12 months’ jail while Azlin was fined RM2,600 or nine months’ jail.
The four were charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both on conviction.
