Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court, here, Wednesday, with stealing a car.
Mohd Qassim Ahmad, 26, was accused of stealing a Proton Pesona belonging to Alvie Jack at 11.30pm on June 3 at an open space at Jalan Lembaga Air Kasigui, Penampang.
However, no plea was taken from Qassim, who appeared before Assistant Court Registrar Rita Kunsoi, after the charge was read to him. The charge under Section 379A of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one year and seven years and liability of a fine, on conviction.
The court set July 12 for Qassim’s plea to be taken before a magistrate and offered him bail at RM1,300 in two sureties.
In another case, a 21-year-old man was charged with having a stolen motorcycle.
Unemployed Muhd Farezzudie Jamrah was accused of keeping a stolen Yamaha Ego LC motorcycle belonging to Fandi Ahmad at 8.30pm on June 1 at Jalan Berungis, Tuaran.
No plea was recorded from Farezzudie.
The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between six months and five years and liability of a fine, on conviction.
Farezzudie was offered bail at RM1,200 in two sureties pending mention of the case on July 12 for his plea to be taken.
