Kota Kinabalu: The court set June 30 for e-review to monitor status of the case involving a company charged with failing to securely cover an elevator door opening which caused a fatal accident.
Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim fixed the date for TK Elevator Malaysia Sdn Bhd when its case was brought up for mention via online.
On May 23 this year, the company through its representative, pleaded not guilty to the charge against the company and the representative of the company was released on a bail of RM2,000 in a local surety with permanent address and job.
The company, as a sub-contractor, was accused of failing to securely cover or fence the elevator door opening as to prevent risk of people falling.
The offence allegedly took place at 11.36am on Jan 14 this year at the elevator door number 4 at the sixth floor of the Propose 25 Storey Mixed Commercial Development (with Subsidiary titles to be applied for) at Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, here.
The company was charged under Section 10 (e) Factories and Machinery Act 1967 and punishable under section 51 (2) of the same Act which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000, or a jail term of up to one year, or both.
Meanwhile, the court set June 15 for facts and sentencing on a man charged with taking drugs repeatedly.
The date had been fixed for Sheikh Farhan Afifi Ismail who changed his plea and admitted to the charge against him.
He allegedly repeatedly took the drugs after testing positive at the Papar police station in which he has several similar convictions.
Pending the date, Farhan was ordered remanded further.
