Sabah’s cases spike nearly 30pc to 87
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s new Covid-19 cases spiked by nearly 30 per cent to 87 on Friday from 67 the day earlier, signifying an upward trend in the last five days.Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the increase in cases is likely due to the recent festive celebrations.

“Although the increase in daily cases was predicted earlier due to the public celebrating Aidilfitri and Kaamatan throughout May, the effects of the celebrations ‘overflowed’ into June.

“Flexibility in social activities is also a factor that contributed to the higher number of new infections.

“Taking into account the festivities and school holidays that are ongoing, the State Health Department predicts that the daily caseload will only stabilise at the end of June,” he said in a statement, Friday. Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 30 cases on Friday, followed by Penampang (27), Sandakan (8), Putatan (4) and Tawau (4). No deaths or new clusters were identified.
