Sabah contractors urged to register with MCP
Kota Kinabalu: All contractors in Sabah have been urged to register with the Malaysia Contractors Portal (MCP) to facilitate transactions like licensing and certificate applications and their related works with government agencies.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup said presently about 13,000 contractors in Sabah are registered with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), but the number of contractors registered with MCP is disappointingly low.

“Therefore, CIDB organised this seminar in Sabah today so that more contractors will register with MCP. This is also in tandem with the Government’s effort toward digitalisation. MCP will facilitate dealings between contractors and government agencies or the company’s customers,” he said.

He told reporters after officiating the Contractors’ Registration Seminar and the presentation of Special Awards to Contractors and Manufacturers, here, Thursday.

He also said CIDB launched the MCP Portal in February to make it easier for contractors to have access to all government agencies that are registered with the MCP.

“Besides that, the MCP also provides a Contractor Report Card (CRC). The report card will enable the public and government agencies to conduct a contractor search and also have access to the contractor’s profile.

“CRC will also provide detailed information regarding the registration status and the performance of contractors registered with CIDB,” he explained.

According to Arthur, among the information contained in the CRC included the list of projects declared, a list of certificates obtained by the company such as Contractor Capability and Capability Assessment Programme (Score), International Standards Organisation (ISO) certificates, and Health and Safety certificate as well as disciplinary or legal action taken against the contractor concerned.

He said CRC is important to enable agencies, project owners and the public to scrutinise the background of a contractor.

“This will ensure that only eligible contractors with good performance record and the ability to complete a project the best that it can, is selected to complete construction projects,” he added.
