Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Christian Didier Chin is happy to be back on the international tennis circuit after more than two years of inactivity due to the pandemic.
He took part in the Thailand-ITF Men’s Doubles tour in Chiang Rai with China’s Bu Yunchaokete and lost to the pairing of Congsup Congcar and Shintaro Imai 3-6,5-7 in the quarter-final stage in leg one held from May 30-June 2.
The pair fared better in leg two which concluded on Sunday (June 12) where they managed to make it to the semi-finals before losing to Yuttana Charoenphon and Kasidit Samrej in three sets 2-6, 6-1, 10-12.
“I have decided to start playing competitions again after spending three months coaching and training in Sydney, Australia.
“Although I failed to reach the final in both attempts, to be able to reach the quarter-finals and semi-finals after the long break is still a very good start,” he said on Sunday.
He also revealed that he had to withdraw from the next leg which started on Monday to avoid aggravating an injury sustained during training.
He thanked personal coach Saed Alirizad for his effort to improve his technique and also his father, Christopher as well as Burning Pitt, AirAsia and the fans for their support.
