Threatening to kill sister:  Man gets eight months
Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old unemployed man who threatened to kill his sister for not being given money to buy syabu, was jailed for eight months, Tuesday.

Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles meted out the sentence to Rojem Dalpa after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence to one Nurita Dalpa, 34, at 5.50pm on June 3 at Kg Numbak, Manggatal.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik told the court that prior to the incident, Nurita was cooking in the kitchen when she heard noises coming from her mother’s house and saw her brother, Rojem, running amok and breaking things in the house.

Nurita confronted Rojem who later threatened to kill her and she fled from the house, the court heard.

Kelvan added that such incident is not uncommon as the accused would turn to the women to feed his drug and gambling addictions. Rojem was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine, or both, on conviction.

Rojem, who was not represented, was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on June 3.

In another case, a 22-year-old man was jailed four months for shoplifting.

Unemployed Md Syafik Amir Sham admitted to stealing a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label Blended Scotch Whiskey 750ml worth RM210 at the Bataras Hypermarket, Putatan at 2.40pm on June 3.

The charge, under Section 380 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine on conviction.

The court heard from the prosecution that Syafik was seen through the CCTV recording stealing the liquor from a box and hiding it under his T-shirt and walking out without paying.

Syafik was caught outside the premises and handed over to the police.

He was not represented.

Meanwhile, a 31-year-old man was sentenced to 14 months’ jail for having 1.50gm of syabu.

Hezairi Kasim admitted to committing the offence at 11.30pm on March 5 at Kg Muhibbah, Putatan.

The charge under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years’ jail, or both, on conviction.
