Kota Kinabalu: A man who fled at a roadblock check operation at the Jalan Tuaran Bypass, here, was thought to be involved in drugs.
He was arrested and found in possession of tin foil and a plastic tube containing crystal clear residue suspected to be syabu weighing about 0.04gm inside a bag.
Sabah Police Head of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Supt Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the 2.30pm operation was carried out to identify misconduct involving commercial vehicles.
The operation team chased and managed to arrest him.
Mohd Zamzuri said the purpose of the operation was to detect foreign drivers driving commercial vehicles, especially lorries carrying loads in excess of the permitted limit.
It was also to detect lorry drivers who did not have driving licences that could endanger other road users.
“This operation was carried out for two days starting last Tuesday and a total of seven summonses were issued for various offences.
“Meanwhile, 11 lorry vehicles were also instructed to undergo a load weighing inspection at the Road Transport Department’s Weighing Station, in Telipok, here,” he said.
Mohd Zamzuri said, as a result of the operation, a total of nine types of lorries were ordered to appear in court for the offense of carrying more than the prescribed limit while two others and their vehicle were compounded for the same offence.
