PAPAR: A 43-year-old motorcyclist died on the spot following a collision with a car along Km10 Jalan Papar-Beaufort, here, Sunday.
District Police Chief DSP Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the incident occurred at about 2.40pm when the victim, heading from Kimanis to Papar town, attempted to overtake a vehicle but collided with an upcoming Perodua Kenari.
“Initial investigations revealed that the motorcycle was attempting to overtake another vehicle and entered the opposing lane.
“Due to the short distance between both vehicles, the Kenari driver could not brake in time and both vehicles collided,” he said.
Kamaruddin said the motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was later pronounced dead by Papar Hospital Medical Officer.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said six personnel rushed to the scene after being alerted at 2.54pm.
He said that there were five victims involved in the accident in which four of them were travelling in the Kenari, including the driver while the deceased was traveling on his motorcycle.
No operation was carried out by the department except for clearing debris on the road to ensure safety, he added.
