Tackle increase in vegetable prices, Junz tells government
“Prices of fertilisers have increased tremendously, yet the situation was not managed adequately by the government,” Junz (left) said.
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government has been urged to alleviate the increase in vegetable prices in the State.

Making the call, Warisan Vice-President Datuk Junz Wong said he received several complaints from vegetable sellers around here and Penampang, before conducting a dialogue.

“Prices of fertilisers have increased tremendously, yet the situation was not managed adequately by the government,” he said in a statement, Monday.

“Normal fertilisers have increased from RM98 per 50kg to RM180 per 50kg. That is about a 100 per cent increment.

“Natural fertiliser from chicken manure has also increased from RM2.50 per bag to now RM4 per bag, on top of an additional 50 cents extra in transportation fees.

“So how can prices of vegetables and fruits not increase, even when locally grown produces are affected by the cost of planting? Needless to say, imported produces.”

Junz, who is also Tanjung Aru assemblyman, urged the government to address the issue immediately.

“This is a very bad monitoring job that leads to uncontrolled challenging situation for all local farmers. And worse is GRS does not know what to do to address this issue.

“Ultimately the people of Sabah are suffering badly,” he claimed.
