Labuan Urban Transformation Centre's broken lifts to be repaired soon: Labuan Corporation
LABUAN: Hundreds of traders and civil servants at the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Pasar Sentral here can heave a sigh of relief soon as the problem of broken lifts at the three-storey building will be fixed in the next few days.

Labuan Corporation (LC) acting chief executive officer Rithuan Ismail said parts for repairing the two lifts would be delivered to Labuan from Kuala Lumpur via courier service Tuesday.

“We are fully aware of the difficulties faced by the tenants at the UTC Pasar Sentral, especially those occupying the upper floor who have to climb the staircase every day.

Daily Express's report on June 21, 2022.

“We have been pushing the supplier to expedite the delivery of the parts so that the repair works can be done immediately,” he told Bernama Tuesday.

Rithuan said the parts were not available locally and had to be ordered from China.

The RM34 million UTC Pasar Sentral houses hundreds of shop lots and food kiosks, the Immigration Department and the National Registration Department.

Rithuan said the RM1.5 million escalator would also be repaired after getting parts from the supplier.

One of the two lifts has been out of service since January this year while the other broke down last month.

Traders and consumers are frustrated with the delay in repairing the lifts and highlighted the problem to Labuan Member of Parliament Datuk Rozman Isli.

Trader Noredah Abu, 57, said it was tough climbing the staircase from the ground floor to her kiosk upstairs.

“You would be breathing heavily by the time you get to the top. You have to stop at every floor,” she said.
