Covid death; cases are up
Kota Kinabalu: After a month of zero fatalities, Sabah recorded one Covid-19 death on Wednesday while cases rose to 125 from 97 the day earlier.Sabah’s Covid-19 Spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun urged the public to be vigilant at crowded places and abide by all standard operating procedures (SOP).

“Sporadic infections are still the main cause of Covid-19 transmissions. 64 per cent of cases on Wednesday are sporadic, where the source of infection is unknown. It often occurs in populated areas such as urban centers and congested places.
“The percentage of sporadic infections in Kota Kinabalu is 77.3 per cent, 72.7 per cent in Putatan while 66.7 per cent of cases in both Penampang and Sandakan were also sporadic. The public is once again reminded to be careful when being in crowded places,” he said Wednesday. Masidi said districts recording a high number of cases include Kota Kinabalu (44), Penampang (24), Sandakan (12) and Putatan (11).

“Tawau, Semporna, Tongod, Nabawan, Kalabakan, Lahad Datu and Kuala Penyudid which did not record any cases on Tuesday registered new infections on Wednesday. As a result, the number of districts recording zero infections decreased from 15 to 9,” he said.

He said 122 out of 125 cases were category one and two infections, while two cases were registered in category four and one in category five. No new clusters were identified.
