PM: Chicken prices will not be floated
PETALING JAYA: The Government has decided not to float the prices for chicken, with a new ceiling price to be announced soon.

In a statement Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob also said there will be no hikes to water and electricity tariffs in the peninsula.

Ismail said this meant that the government will spend RM5.8 billion in subsidies for water and electricity, due to the rise in fuel prices and other related costs.

Ismail added that the new ceiling price for chicken would be announced by Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Ronald Kiandee.

The ceiling price of RM8.90 per kg for chicken, which was implemented on Feb 5, will be removed on June 30.

On June 21, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the price of chicken is expected to be between RM10 and RM12 per kg once the ceiling price is removed.

On Wednesday, Ismail announced an increase in the Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM) cash aid to help those in the B40 cope with the rising cost of goods.
