Kota Kinabalu: The early reopening of China’s international borders would bring affirmative result to the local tourism industry and Malaysia.
Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) is eagerly looking forward for it to happen.
Its Chairman, Datuk Michael Lui said the chamber is happy to note that the Covid-19 situation in China is improving.
He said this when paying a courtesy call on the new Consul General of China in Kota Kinabalu, Huang Shifiang.
He said allowing Chinese nationals to enter Malaysia, particularly Sabah, will boost the local tourism sector apart from positively reactivating the investment and logistics industries, among others.
Lui is optimistic that Huang will continue to facilitate Chinese investors and tourists to Sabah.
“The reopening of the economic sectors and social activities in Malaysia, coupled with the Belt and Road initiative, Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) will open up more opportunities and potential for business,” he said.
Lui said the implementation of RCEP and CPTPP will enhance international trade and restore the supply chain more effectively.
On her part, the Consul-General said her office had been working on promoting economic development, education, preservation of Chinese culture and enhancing the close ties between China and Sabah.
With China’s comprehensive strategic partnership with Asean and RCEP coming into force, Huang is forecasting new opportunities to boost the cooperation between her country and Malaysia, including Sabah.
