Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Covid-19 caseload remained high with 163 cases on Wednesday, an increase from 160 the day earlier, with a high number of sporadic infections detected in densely populated urban areas.Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said Kota Kinabalu and Penampang recorded relatively high figures with 79 and 39 cases, respectively.
“As many as 62 per cent of new cases in Kota Kinabalu and 59 per cent of cases in Penampang were sporadic transmissions.
“They in turn will infect their family members and friends who are close contacts, which increase the percentage of close contacts.
“On Wednesday, 26 out of 79 cases in Kota Kinabalu and 16 out of 39 in Penampang were close contacts.
“All residents, especially those living in urban areas, must comply with all standard operating procedures to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmissions,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.
Overall, Masidi said 11 districts recorded an increase in cases compared to seven that recorded a decrease.
He added that all 163 cases were category one and two infections. No deaths or new clusters were identified.
