He promised to bring A&W fast food restaurants back to Sabah after the last outlet at the Likas Plaza was closed more than a decade ago, when the ownership was under KUB group of companies. In 2018, Ang acquired A&W for RM34mil and has been rapidly growing the portfolio since.
MCCC Sabah Branch President Michael Chin shared his inspiring journey to be a successful entrepreneur at the event organised by Lim Eng Ming and her committee of young entrepreneurs that includes MCCC-YEC advisor and Deputy Chairman Dexter Yeh. Daily Express is the event media partner.

MCCC–YEC Committee Chairman James Wong in his speech explained, “Our YEC Committee’s vision and purpose this year is to focus on building a powerful network, providing quality business learnings, and of course have great fun among close friends, bringing great value, education and business mentorship to our members.”
“Our MCCC Masterclass Series of Events feature ‘Titans of Industry’ from across Malaysia and internationally to share about their business journey, secret lessons, and deep honest learnings about their ups and downs that they went through on their business journey.”
“As entrepreneurs, we all know how tough it can be on this journey as oftentimes it feels like we are fighting and struggling to survive on our own, our families sometimes don’t understand , our staff never see our side of the story, and the world doesn’t care whether we crash or burn.”
“This is what MCCC-YEC is all about – growing, learning and supporting each other on this journey, realising that we are not on this road alone, as we share with each other our struggles and ups and downs,” Wong said.
In the event, he introduced the Entrepreneurs Organisation delegates who came from Kuala Lumpur to join in the event, headed by Collin Swee who delivered a brief address to the attendees.
George Ang in his presentation inspired the audience with his business journey to success notably to be kind to people on your way up as you would not know who you would meet on your way down in the ups and downs of business life.
He said it is important to motivate your staff by praising whatever small improvement or good conduct they show on the job instead of constantly scolding them for any fault which can be very demotivating to their work morale.
To Ang, the most important asset in his company are the people, a strong people culture of energetic and passionate leaders is the key to successful growth, as any business idea must be able to attract financing, sell hope and promise a good future.
Quoting Thomas Edison, he said, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. Many of life’s failures are people who did not realise how close they were to success when they gave up.”
