1945It was a month after the double tenth. We were always looking for food, which was scarce those days. Starvation was facing us. Money could not purchase it. My friend Mr. PK Kurup, a surveyor, who was staying in Tenghilan about 27 miles away asked me to go to his place and he would give me some rice, oil (coconut) etc. etc.
I had gone with two baskets and a bag all tied on either side of the handlebar of my cycle. I had to cross a 15 ft. wide stream, which was running about 10 ft below the level of the bridge.
