Kota Kinabalu: Institut Sinaran (IS) students may now attain their United Kingdoms (UK) Business Degrees locally at Inti College Sabah (ICS) following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Monday.
Under the MoU, students from IS stand to gain from a progression pathway in pursuing the three-year courses provided on top of enjoying a progression discount.
According to IS CEO, Michael Chin, the cost of living which has dramatically increased post pandemic has impeded the aspirations of students in obtaining their scrolls.
“Being able to get an international degree without having to leave the country has become an important option amid the rising costs of living.
“It is noticeable even in simple grocery store items and coffee shops we once regarded as cheap.
“Now we see many run dry in only three weeks when their salaries used to last up to a month,” he said.
Inti International University and Colleges CEO, Chong Kok Wai said the collaboration was part of their effort to grow their network of local and international academic partners.
“Inti is committed to this partnership and will provide full support and cooperation in carrying out the responsibilities as stipulated in the MoU.
“We are delighted to be able to work on initiatives that will assist students from IS to continue their education at ICS,” he said.
IS Exams Secretary, Adam Pau said at least more than half of their A-Levellers target overseas studies but is sure all want to cut down on spending.
“Even if students pursued their higher education in Kuala Lumpur, the cost of living can be discouraging. Opting to continue studying in Kota Kinabalu will be very much cheaper.
“They can stay with their families who can support their food, travel and accommodation expenses. I noticed this has become the norm after the pandemic. The method could slash costs up to 50 per cent,” he said.
Through the collaboration, it will allow IS students to have a direct study pathway to UK Business Degree programmes.
