SANDAKAN: Community leaders, religious leaders, non-governmental organisation leaders as well as surau or mosque committee members here need to remind the community about hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD).Sandakan Health Officer Dr Johari Awang Besar said the increase in HFMD cases in the district needs to be given attention to prevent it from threatening the lives of children.
“The main causes of HFMD are associated with Enterovirus 71 (EV71) infection, namely contact with HFMD patients, poor hygiene practices, attending childcare centres as well as a high number of children in a family and living in rural areas.
