Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Covid-19 caseload breached the 200 mark with 205 cases reported on Thursday from 196 the day earlier.
Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the positivity rate was 11.3 per cent of 2,588 test samples, compared to 9.76 per cent of 2,828 samples the day earlier.
“A high positivity rate is an indicator that the virus is spreading fast.
“A faster rate of transmission is likely caused by those who tested positive for Covid-19 but failed or refused to get tested and instead continue their daily activities as usual.
“Relaxed standard operating procedures (SOPs) on social activity restrictions also facilitate transmissions,” he said in a statement, Thursday.
Masidi said Kota Kinabalu continued to top the list with 88 cases despite recording 11 cases fewer compared to the day before.
“However, cases in Penampang nearly tripled from 24 cases on Wednesday to 64 cases on Thursday, an increase of 40 cases.
“Putatan, which was previously infection-free, recorded 14 cases. Except for Penampang and Putatan, the overall situation is still good with 13 districts recording a decrease compared to six recording an increase.
“Fourteen districts did not record any infections in the previous 24 hours,” he said.
Masidi said all 205 cases were category one and two infections. 65 per cent were sporadic.
No deaths or new clusters were identified.
