Kids missing in Tawau, Beaufort

TAWAU: A seven-year-old boy with disabilities is feared drowned after he went missing in Kg Jawa Lanut at noon on Sunday.Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Julius John Stephen Jr identified him as Muhammad Fakhri Zhafrah Afandi Muhammad Maulidin. Six firefighters were deployed to the scene after receiving a 4.20pm distress call.

“The caller said they only realised the boy was missing at about noon, promp-ting villagers to go in search of him.
“The caller also said they believe the boy might have drowned in a nearby river,” he said.

In BEAUFORT, the body of three-year-old Mohd Qyis Azhar Abdul Halim from Kg Kuridak Gerama was found Sunday while that of a girl, identified as 18-month-old Jude Angel from Kg Batu 66, remain missing.

District Fire and Rescue Chief Mohammad Hasbullah Nenggok said the girl disappeared on Saturday at around 12.30pm in Kg Batu 66.

Two kilometres of the riverbank were searched on Saturday, but it had to be postponed because it was getting dark.

Using the K9 Unit’s assistance, the search was resumed on Sunday.

The youngster was left in the care of a relative, according to information acquired from sources, while her parents went to the tamu Beaufort to sell their wares. The girl’s disappearance was only noticed at 8.30am. Those with information on her whereabouts have been urged to contact the Fire and Rescue Department at 087-212025 or 019-2448723.

The boy’s body was discovered by villagers at 10.20am about 500 metres from his home. The body has since been sent for post mortem.
