Tenom: The body of a man who was reported missing since July 9 while crossing the Padas Panawan River for fishing in Kuala Tomani, here, was found Wednesday afternoon.
The 25-year-old victim was found at 1.30pm some 6km from where he was reported missing by a search party comprising villagers, fire and rescue, police and civil defence personnel.
The Tenom Fire and Rescue Station received a call at 10.13pm on July 9 about a man who went missing while crossing the river, prompting nine firefighters led by Operations Officer Zainal Sinsian to launch a search and rescue (SAR) operation the following day.
Also joining the operation were 11 policemen, nine members of the Civil Defence Corps (APM), 30 villagers and two members of the Kampung Momaitom Volunteer Fire Brigade.
The body was found on the fifth day of the operation, which was divided into four groups and carried out the surface rescue method on the river bank and using rescue boats.
In BEAUFORT, efforts to locate an 18-month-old girl reported missing from her house at Kampung 66 for four days are continuing.
Beaufort Fire and Rescue Department head Mohammad Hasbullah Nenggok said Jude Angel Jeremy could have fallen into the river and the search and rescue operation had been extended to the Padas River.
“The operation involving the police, Rela and Civil Defence Corps (APM), including the use of our K9 Unit, is ongoing,” he added.
