Industrial estates face new pest woes
Prof. Michael J. Wingfield (left) stressed that the key to success must involve developing a strong base of local research together with robust global networks of collaboration.
Kota Kinabalu: University of Pretoria Prof. Michael J. Wingfield said Sabah’s industrial tree plantation (ITP) industry can be expected to face new pest woes in future.

“Based on past experience, both locally and globally, all indications are that plantation forestry in the region will continuously face new pest problems.

“This will clearly threaten the sustainability of plantation forestry,” he said at the Borneo Forestry Co-operative (BFC) Symposium entitled: “Developing Resilient Industrial Tree Plantations in Sabah: Forestry Pests & Diseases” on July 7 at the Sabah International Convention Centre.
