Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Covid-19 caseload hit a new all-time high of 261 cases on Friday while the positivity rate climbed to 15.68 per cent – an indication that the virus is spreading fast, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.A spike from 181 cases on Thursday, the 261 caseload was also the highest figure recorded since April 1, of which 81 per cent were sporadic infections.
One death was recorded in Kota Kinabalu.
“On Friday, the State Health Department recorded a positivity rate of 15.68 per cent from 2,800 test samples, which was far higher compared to the positivity rate the day before.
“This signifies that transmissions are getting rapid. It is hoped that the public will take heed of this development,” he said in a statement, Friday.
Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 83 cases, followed by Penampang (49), Sandakan (22), Papar (18), Putatan (17), Lahad Datu (11) and Tuaran (11).
“Penampang recorded the highest increase with 34 cases, followed by Putatan (+16), Lahad Datu (+11), Kota Belud (+6), Kota Marudu (+5) and Tawau (+5).
“A total of 14 districts recorded an increase compared to six that recorded a decrease,” he added.
Masidi said 258 out of 261 cases were category one and two infections, while one case was each recorded in category three, four and five.
No new clusters were identified.
